The Martial Arts Connection - Dojo Earth

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Find out how Dojo Earth is helping to expand the Martial Arts community online!

Thanks to the help of Hollywood and other elements of pop culture, Martial Arts are becoming increasingly popular among the mainstream population, with the most popular ones begin MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai Boxing, Karate and Kung Fu etc. This acceptance by the mainstream culture is a very positive thing for Martial Arts, mainly because of the fact that Martial Arts are an excellent form of exercise. In a world that is plagued by obesity problem, Martial Arts can help combat this rising problem by giving people an good way to get off their couch and exercise. Instead of spending hours after hours on a treadmill and exercise machines (not to mentioned the high cost involved) you can now spend time with other people, learn new things and get a great workout at the same time.

As previously mentioned, Hollywood is not the only reason for the increased interest in Martial Arts. As with most things in our modern society, the internet has played a role in elevating the status of Martial Arts throughout the world. Not only does the internet allow people to find all the Martial Arts information they want, but it also allows people with a similar interest and passion in Martial Arts to connect and find each other. The pioneering social networking web site for Martial Arts enthusiasts is Dojo Earth: Martial Arts Connection. Dojo Earth allows you to create a free profile and start connecting with other people involved in Martial Arts. From blogs to groups to videos to forums, Dojo Earth has everything that a great social networking website for Martial Arts needs!

But after a year and a half of work experience, I’d already realized that you must, must do in this life what really, truly excites you. Yeah, we all hear that, but rarely does it sink in, at least fully. I thought that the dot-com era excited me, and it did in many ways, but in reality I was swept up in this incredible wave of frenzied, IPO-seeking, “I’m going to make a million before 25″ mania. I liked the way it was changing the world. But in too many ways I felt like I was selling my soul by participating. I want my end product to matter. I don’t want to make money just to make money. In other words, I want to do more than just shuffle bits. I want to save lives.
Variety is reporting that “After an exhaustive search, NBC has chosen British actress Michelle Ryan for the lead role of Jamie Sommers in its upcoming Bionic Woman pilot. The network reported considered better-known stars, but ultimately went with someone who’ll be a newcomer to most American viewers. Ryan is known in the United Kingdom for having spent five years on the long-running BBC serial EastEnders.”poker rooms

Big Words

I’m just a normal guy. So, if you post a description of yourself in the company facebook archive, try to keep it simple. If I have to check out Wikipedia to find out that a “pescatarian” doesn’t eat land animals, I don’t feel enlightened, further educated, or hopeful for social justice. I feel like eating a cheeseburger. This means you, new girl in the DC office.

Widgets from WidgetBox

I recently discovered a great website called WidgetBox that hosts 1,000s’s of widgets that you can add to your blog. You can also take your own blog feed and turn it into a widget! While I’m spending all this time working on widgets, here’s what I’m listening to:
But… why the delay? I mean, that was nearly five years ago. Well, life intervened. First of all, I had to go back and take classes. Then I had to take the MCAT (Medical College Admision Test). Then a tragic family event occurred. This delayed my application by two more years. So here I am now, ready and raring to go after waiting for this for a long time.

Heroes -
Lots of stuff is happening on the Fastest Show on TV - it puts Lost to shame with how much they get accomplished in one episode. I was scribbling furiously and pissing off my wife, who just wanted to see what would happen next and didn’t care that I needed to write everything down. By the way, the show goes on hiatus until April 23rd, so watch this one over and over.

HRG’s got a blank mind, and tells his boss so, but before he had his own mind wiped by the Haitian, he told his wife everything. She gives him a note he wrote himself not to go after Claire as he sent her away for her own safety. Isaac killed Simone and tries to shoot Peter again, who flees. The Haitian and Claire are told to leave the country. The FBI, investigating Linderman, have recruited Nathan as their undercover agent and want him to meet Linderman and get incriminating evidence. Sylar has the list but Mohinder is onto him and poisons his tea, knocking him out. Mohinder (painfully) extracts Sylar’s DNA to test it but then does the one thing you’re not supposed to do - he lets the bad guy live just a little longer. Mohinder also makes some kind of breakthrough by studying Sylar’s DNA. Claire wants to find Peter, the only person she trusts, but the Haitian says no, so Claire gives him the slip at airport security.byer 1 2 3 4|
6. BLUE BAND: local Jazz band or margarine?
7. KREST: toothpaste or soda pop?
8. BOP: boxing gloves or insecticide?
I love the beachy hair look - there is something about the salt water that makes all hair look incredible. What if you can’t get to a beach? Well try two of my favorite summer hair products. Kusco Murphy Beach Hair is a thick paste that incorporates crushed bamboo and coconut oil to replicate a day at the beach. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is a salt infused spray with seaweed extract that will give you that soft wavy look with light hold. Both will give you sexy beach hair.

9. IMPERIAL LEATHER: saddle polish or bar soap?
10. NEW VISION: contact lens solution or local newspaper?
11. PURITY: toilet paper or jarred baby food?

The first few weeks here were trying to figure out what may be in some of the containers with these strange and unusual names. Sometimes the answer is obvious and sometimes we are left baffled. Few things make me feel more like a foreigner than going to the supermarket. I’m beginning to get the hang of it now and could even tell you not to eat the JIK…because it’s bleach. By the way, the second item listed is always the correct answer.

Muddling Through Stage 2

Numerous books and articles have been published on culture shock. Studies have been done on the effects of moving far from home to make a home on foreign shores. I thought that by reading up on it I could “outrun” culture shock. I could not have been more naive.

Is it home if you don’t know the zipcode?
The enemy does not hide its goals: global domination, the annihilation of those who will not submit, the destruction of our way of life and the imposition of religious dictatorship that would create a would resembling Iran or Taliban Afghanistan. And, the mindless opposition to our efforts to win this conflict that we see from some quarters in the West only serves to encourage our enemies that they are winning and that Allah is on their side. There are times when all the world´s asleep
The questions run too deep
For such a simple manShe said that one year of trying wasn’t really that long and was not an indication of anything wrong. She also said that about 30% of pregnancies end of in miscarriages but many people don’t realize it because they don’t monitor their bodies that closely so when a very early miscarriage happens they just think they got their period.forsikringen

But please tell me who i amThe only debate in the West should be how to win against Islam in the most efficient manner possible. Talk of retreat from Iraq or agonizing over what rights to give to jihadists - people who reject the very notion of Western style human rights, except when they can be used against us - is suicidal. It only serves to hide the reality of the war between Islam and the West and to embolden our enemies.
Quick…what’s the first place you think of when you hear the word “home”? Is it where you live now? Where you grew up? Possibly it’s somewhere you’ve lived along the way. In the past few months our family has called many different houses “home”. In one way or another they have been. Currently however we are a little out of sorts as a family and anxious to be “home”. Allow me to explain with a brief time line.

Well, whadda ya know … political affiliations played a BIG role in judicial nominations/appointments - the CLINTON administration, that is:

For all of the posturing by Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee during the testimony of former Department of Justice political appointee Monica Goodling, they and their Democrat colleagues in the Clinton administration went to far greater lengths to identify and track the political activities of career and politically appointed lawyers in the Department of Justice and elsewhere.
neKeyAway.com of Redondo Beach and Emotional Wreck-ords of Hollywood are uniting to create a new brand of dating and entertainment experience, playfully known as “Datertainment”. At select OneKeyAway Mixers, Emotional Wreck-ords Label Artists will provide ice-breaking entertainment and “Wingman” services that will encourage guests to mingle with each other throughout the event. The companies will launch their first cross-promoted event on Thursday, July 13, 2006 from 7pm to 10pm and held at 14 Below in Santa Monica, California. When the law enforcement agencies of the nation shirk their duty and refuse to enforce the laws on the books, it is a call to action!

I have come to believe that our leaders are so out of touch with their constituents they have no idea how angry we are at the illegals… and… at them… for their spineless contortions to create legislation to cover their covetousness for minority voters and cheap labor!

The anger out here in the hinterlands, in “fly-over” country, is palpable. The heat of our anger is akin to touching one’s finger to a hot stove. Somebody is going to get burned!

“We knew the political affiliation of every lawyer and political appointee we hired at the Department of Justice from January 1993 to the end of the Administration,” says a former Clinton Department of Justice political appointee. “We kept charts and used them when it came time for new U.S. Attorney nominations, detailee assignments, and other hiring decisions. If you didn’t vote Democrat, you weren’t going anywhere with us. It was that simple.”

spending billions

to iron this all out: Kerry supposedly really did (uh huh) believe Saddam had WMD, and his real desire was to have the UN be the decider of what the US should do in response (surprise!), but because of politics and not wanting to be seen as weak, he voted in favor of the Iraq war resolution.

James Taranto called Kerry’s move back in September 2003.

Democrats: Playing politics with the war then. Playing politics with the war now.
Will provided the reality of who is really making a ton of money off of every gallon of gas you purchase. “While oil companies make about 13 cents on a gallon of gasoline, the federal government makes 18.4 cents (the federal tax)…” When you add in the tax imposed by States, you discover that California, for example, makes 40.2 cents on that same gallon of gas, and San Francisco collects a local sales tax of 8.5 cents. In Wisconsin, the State law requires retailers to sell gasoline for 9.18 percent above the wholesale price.

Federal, state and local communities extract more from your wallet than Big Oil every time you top off your car’s gas tank.

It’s not that Big Oil isn’t making billions, but they are also spending billions to insure that you can have gasoline for your car and oil to heat your home, plus all the other products that are derived from oil. And Big Oil is faced with a world of problems in the process. As Business Week recently noted, “Much of the global oil patch is now off-limits.”

In case you haven’t noticed, Hugo Chavez, Venezuela’s dictator, intends to take over the assets of the oil companies that have invested billions in that nation. In Nigeria, the oil industry is under attack from various factions. Iraq, now free of Saddam Hussein’s butchery, has yet to have met a reasonable standard of productivity. Iran has announced a rise in the price of gasoline because it too lacks refinery capacity. Other areas of the world, such as deepwater wells, require enormous sums of money to explore, drill, extract and transport oil.

So, you may be a bit more inclined to cut Big Oil a bit of slack. I think about that every time I fill up my car’s tank.

The average person would probably think that methamphetamine is a relatively new drug that appeared suddenly overnight. Actually, methamphetamine has been around since the early 1900’s and has had a quiet growing affect on the population as it rapidly spreads across the physical and socio-economic boundaries of America. Also know as meth, crystal, crank and speed, it is the backbone of Ritalin and the “club drugs” ecstasy, eve and cat. With the widespread sharing of recipes for manufacture over the internet, meth has an increasing grip on American culture.

Don Cherry has to be the most politically incorrect commentator I’ve ever seen. And it makes for great tv. In anticipation of his work with NBC for the rest of the Cup Finals, here are a couple classic Don Cherry moments.

I am not arguing here in favor of Civil Gideon. I don’t know yet whether I support it or not. I am concerned that it focuses only on the indigent, when so many of the middle class cannot afford legal services either. I also don’t think that being represented by counsel is any guarantee that you’ll negotiate more effectively at the mediation table or even fare better in court–I have seen my share of unrepresented people outbargain a supposedly more sophisticated opponent with counsel, as well as people whose best interests were ignored by their lawyers. And the problem may also not be that pro se litigants are pressured to accept settlements they should not. On the contrary, I have seen pro se litigants walk away from fair settlements to defeat in court later, simply because they lacked legal advice to recognize that settlement as a fair one. And I personally would rather see this energy channeled against tort reform, before the case for a civil right to counsel becomes moot. But these are concerns well beyond the scope of this post.

I share Engler’s viewpoint with you, my colleagues, to invite us all to reflect on our role at the table. He raises questions we should stop and face.

Is our goal to settle cases? Or is it to advance justice? Perhaps we can achieve both.

But let us be careful–very careful–not to mistake the first for the second.

Pierre McGuire, Who Died?

Between the 2nd and 3rd sets of the Rafael Nadal and Albert Montanes NBC cut to a short interview of Daniel Alfredsson with Pierre McGuire. It was possibly the worst interview I’ve ever seen, albeit a short one. For a guy who seems so loud when talking from between the benches, McGuire was so dull and monotonous that I almost wanted to change the channel, or at least mute the tv.

For the past year or so a thread on Digital Home has been discussing McGuire, as well as some other commentators. Things seem evenly split, with an almost 50-50 divide on how good McGuire is. The most interesting post was a response to how some of the commentators stacked up to each other. Moderator JohnnyCanuck felt that;

This appears to be an extension of the domestic outsourcing trend. Competitive pressures and cost pressures are compelling SMBs to focus on their core competencies and look for external help in non-critical business areas, in this case IT operations,” says Nasscom. Outsourcing of non-production-related IT applications enables a company to not only focus on its main business activity but also achieve cost-savings on IT initiatives to the tune of 30%.

US Regulators Eye Indian BPO Firms
CRM News reports auditors from the U.S. could come down to India to check the BPO companies or even conduct them remotely. Expecting audits from the U.S. comptroller of currency early next year, Indian BPO companies and captive units of multinationals are working overtime, holding discussions with consultants and their US counterparts to understand the nuances of these audits.

“These audits are expected early next year. Not only are they likely to check for regulatory compliance, but also for systems and procedures and risk management and confidentiality clauses being followed. We are following up with our U.S. office to get off the ground,” said Ram Aggarwal, partner, Ernst & Young. E&Y already conducts quality control reviews for several BPO units in India.

Good bosses provide leadership. Bad bosses provide what columnist Dale Dauten, author of the Corporate Curmudgeon, calls “Impedership”–which Dauten defines as “the art of demotivation”–the ability to stifle innovation, stamp out ideas, and discourage success among employees.

In today’s column, Dauten points readers to a brilliant video produced by online training company ej4 that captures all the qualities common to demotivating bosses.

Looking ahead and looking back: a conversation with your future self

Futureme.orgThere comes a point in a mediation when it’s time to ask the hard questions.

It often happens when negotiations are stalled. Although a decent offer is on the table, one thing stands between the parties and settlement. “Principle. It’s the principle of the thing,” they say, as they weigh hope at trial against certainty at the table.

At that point I may ask people to do something that is very difficult to do.

I ask them to think for a moment about the future–to imagine their future selves and to ask themselves, will that decision still be the right one for me then?
Outsourcing Custom Car Design
Channelnewsasia.com reports India’s custom automobile design industry is gaining popularity due to the increasing popularity of companies outsourcing projects.

Custom-car design work has been outsourced to Indian companies like “DC Designs” and “5th Quadrant Designs”, due to far lower costs. Apart from design work, they say they are also capable of taking it a step further, by constructing the car according to the technical specifications of the design. It is a concept that’s seen as a sunrise sector in the burgeoning outsourcing industry.

Offshore Outsourcing Growth
ZDNet reports research firm Gartner published a study Monday saying “offshore outsourcing isn’t as widespread as people think,” with lower-cost locales accounting for less than 3 percent of money spent on global information technology services this year.

Gartner projects that figure to grow but remain a relatively small fraction of total spending. By 2008, spending on IT services delivered through “global sourcing” will reach about 7 percent of a $728 billion total market–or roughly $50 billion.

make a relationship

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

A thunder storm hit us around 1 pm. We were fortunate enough to get a couple climbs before it hit. We gathered underneath a small tarp along with other climbers and couple wet dogs. We considered turning around and setting up the camp, but the storm soon passed and the sun once again came out! The rocks dried and we were back to climbing!

Me going up a very fun 5.9 crack
Champagne climbing the crack
Ewww look at this cute couple!

After warming up a little bit I gave leading a try for the very first time. I tried a “simulated lead climb” back in April where I was tied to a lose top rope while leading. This time however, I was leading the proper way - without the rope at the top. I was dragging a rope behind me as I climb and clip the rope into quickdraws every 3-4 metres or so.

The first lead climb was a 5.6. It was pretty short & easy and it sure boosted my confident. I did a few 5.8, 5.9 routes via top ropes then decided to give leading another try. This time it was a 22 metres 5.8 route. Man I sure was scared as hell going up. After what seems to be eternality I finally reach the top of the climb. I then set up the rope system all by myself for the very first time and rappelled down the climb.
So what am I looking for now? I don’t know, and that is why I am searching. I do know that I 100% believe in love at first sight, and now that I am semi-single there will be no more ‘missed opportunities’, which I am notorious for. For everyone who reads this. Take my advice, when you encounter a situation where it seems like at that moment in time there is no one else in the world besides you and that special someone, take advantage of it. That moment may never happen again, and you never want to think would of, could of, should of…….
There’s nothing surprising or shocking about a terrorist attack in India. Indians have lived with that unfortunate fact for a long time, and acts of terrorism today usually evokes little or no response from the Indian government. The order of events is something like this:

1) Terrorist attack takes place.
2) Condemnation by the Indian public and political parties.
3) Mild reproach towards Pakistan, telling them to stop supporting Jihadists.
4) Maybe a “peace vigil” or two depending on the number killed.
5) The usual “message of peace” and “bhaichara” by celebrities and other dignitaries.
6) Life goes on.
7) Terrorist attack takes place.

Last night

Last night was our first night together in a long time, and what happened? Nothing. I fell asleep on the couch and she slept in the bed. Does anyone else find it weird that we haven’t seen one another in over a month and there were no sexual relations last night????

I don’t know I guess I am a firm believer that you need a healthy sex life in order to make a relationship work. Without that you are basically close friends without benefits. In all honesty I think this happens in most relationships. Everything starts out great, but when that lust is over, you are left with the feeling of what’s next. I feel like so many people out there fall into the trap of being too comfortable with a person, and thus substituting it for love. They are afraid to move on, because they will never find another person they can be themselves with. This is a tragedy because the one day they are ready to move on, they realize life has already moved on without them. Most of their friends have found someone, and probably even married, which makes it even more difficult to find ‘the one’.

Me: “Yea I think so. I’m tied in to the anchors, don’t think I’m going to fall and kill myself.”
Felix: “Ok, just want to make sure.”

We left the bluffs around 8 pm, made a detour to the camp site, the grocery store, then back to the campsite. When we set up the camp I quickly realized that I forgot to bring a foamy (A very important camping item since it insulates you from the ground). Instead I took out the carpet from my car and used that as my foamy. Surprisingly it worked pretty well. By the time we finished dinner it was 11 pm! (Talk about a LATE dinner). We hung around the fire with the rest of the VOC crews and went to bed around midnight ready for another day of climbing.
